Organisation and staff

THE PARENTS AND CARERS’ COMMITTEE

Seashells ELCC is a non-profit making organisation run by a parents and carers’ committee. All parents and carers with children in the ELCC are automatically on the committee. The committee elects a Chair and Vice Chair.  Staff members can be invited to committee meetings but cannot be members of the committee.

Our team

Our ELCC has a team of ten enthusiastic staff, all of whom hold qualifications in child development or child care.

We believe that the ELCC team is our biggest resource in delivering a quality early years educational experience for your child.  As such, each member of staff has an individual training plan to support achievement of further qualifications and encourage continuous professional development.

All team members are registered at the Scottish Social Services Council.

Miriam Lindsay - Nursery Manager

I grew up as a little girl in the village of Coldingham in the Scottish Borders before moving away as a teenager and then living near by in Berwick Upon Tweed. When leaving education, I trained as a chef and then furthered my love of the hospitality industry and moving onto further education in Hotel Management. On completion of this training I worked in several hotels and restaurants mainly on reception, admin and wedding planning. Along came marriage and our amazing 5 children which are all boys. Always wanting a large family, life is now very busy but also rewarding. When my youngest son was born it was apparent working in the Hotel industry was not the career for me anymore with such unsociable hours. I then decided  to volunteer at my local nursery in 2006, before gaining part time employment alongside working hard to gain many qualifications in working with Children, as well as training in Autism, Children with disabilities and Speech and language. This progressed further in graduating with a BA Honors degree in Working with Children and Families in 2017. I have been in my post as Nursery Manager at Seashells since April 2016.

Julie Windram - Office Manager

I left Eyemouth to move to Edinburgh when I finished school, where I trained as a Customer service Representative with Standard Life

Assurance company, based in their Commission dept. I moved on from there to be an Underwriter for Black Horse Finance, where I would underwrite proposals for Hire purchases on vehicles - My roles have always been financial related!

I moved back to Eyemouth and started to work as an administrator with ESS, the facilities Management company at Torness Power Station, where i gradually moved up to become a Business  Coordinator - budget prep, quotes, payroll, invoices, front of house to name a few!

I left there when I fell pregnant and now have 2 girls, Holly and Danni.

After being at home with them for a few years a job as Administrator here became available. I started here in December 2013 and have loved it ever since. As the role has changed over the years and become more challenging and demanding, my duties and hours have increased quite a lot. I was made Office Manager in order for the job title to reflect the work the role entails.

Amy McQueen - Senior Practitioner based in Seals room

Working with children has always been a dream of mine from a very young age. From my love of Highland Dancing I decided to become a Highland Dance teacher. This is something I am very passionate about as I have been a dancer since the age of three at a competitive level. Since leaving Eyemouth High School I went on to study Beauty Therapy at Northumberland College in Berwick and I now have my own mobile beauty business. Whilst doing my beauty I decided that I would do some relief work in a local nursery and make my dream a reality. I then went on to do my SVQ Level 3 in Childcare through Borders College which I found very challenging but I managed to complete it in May 2016, one of my proudest moments so far and I ended up working there for 5 years. At the end 2018 I decided to make the move to Seashells Nursery and I am now a Nursery Practitioner which I absolutely love. I have plans to expand my knowledge by attending courses and I am excited to bring new ideas to the nursery.

Jane Richardson - Nursery Practitioner based in Seals room

I was born and raised in Eyemouth. I have a son called Max, and two cats, Callie and Poppy. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work with children and spent my teenage years doing a lot of babysitting. When I left Eyemouth High School I went on to Borders College where I got an NC in Childcare and Early Education and completed a placement at Eyemouth Primary School. I then got my first nursery job right here at Seashells shortly after graduating from college. I left Seashells in 2010 after having my son and spent the following years enjoying being a mum. I decided to apply at Seashells again in 2017 and became a nursery assistant and have loved every minute. I love working with young children and I have qualified with an SVQ7 in Jul 2021..

Abigail Emblen - Nursery Practitioner based in Pups room

I’m a Mum, but to a loving French Bulldog called Herbert and two friendly rabbits called Shadow and Raine.
I grew up in a little village south of Berwick called Belford, where I lived with my mum, dad, brother and two sisters. I studied Social Work at
Newcastle College where I gained my degree. I did a placement at Belford First School (working alongside Miriam & Lisa) where I gained knowledge, skills and developed, my love for working with young children. During my 3rd year of uni, I moved up to Edinburgh with my boyfriend where I worked part time in Starbucks as well as studying for my degree. I now live in Berwick-upon-Tweed and have worked at Seashells Nursery since September 2016 & have loved every minute of it! I have gained my SVQ level 3 during this time, progressing from a nursery assistant to a nursery practitioner.

Lynsey Finnie - Senior Practitioner based in Pups room

I have lived in Eyemouth since 1990 attending both Eyemouth Primary and High School. After leaving school I worked locally but was not really sure of the career I wanted to follow. In 2005 I gave birth to twin boys. When they were 2 years old I decided I wanted to work with Children so enrolled at Jewel and Esk and completed a classroom Assistant course.  While collecting my boys from Seashells in 2008 I was talking to the Manager who offered me a placement. I went on to do my Level 2 in Childcare and Learning and Development. I was successful in then securing a job at Seashells in 2009. Since then I have completed my level 3 and 4. It has been hard work but with the help and support of my family and close friends I celebrate my tenth year at Seashells this year. I love my job and all the children, past present and still to come.

Roxanne Gillie - Nursery Practitioner based in Pups room

I have lived in Eyemouth all my life and now live with my three children and two dogs. I attended Borders College after I left school where I qualified on a course called Introduction to care.

I didn't pursue my career further at this stage  as my parents took over a restaurant in Eyemouth, where I started working as a waitress and helping them out. It wasn't until my third child I decided to go back to college and do my NVQ Level 2 in Childcare. I applied for a job in Seashells but unfortunately I was unsuccessful. However, Miriam asked if I would like to volunteer and study my NVQ Level 3. I did this and then qualified in July 2018 and was  very happy that shortly I was offered a job as a Nursery Assistant in Seashells. This is the best thing I have ever done.

At weekends I enjoy going up to the yard with my children and help muck out stables and feed  horses. I don't ride but both my daughter and son enjoy it very much and I enjoy being of help in the stables. Sundays I like to spend with my family and having days out, Alnwick Castle and Gardens are within my favorites
